Are Medbox prescriptions safe?

Absolutely. All prescriptions obtained via MedBox are provided by licensed Canadian healthcare practitioners—the same as you would get at a hospital, doctor’s office, or clinic.

Our doctors, nurses and pharmacists do not provide prescriptions unless they deem it medically safe and appropriate to write them based on your medical profile and assessment answers. Our assessments follow best Canadian practices and accepted guidelines.

Finally, all medications delivered via MedBox are authorized for sale by Health Canada and filled by a registered pharmacist—the exact same medications as you would get at any pharmacy.

Can I just get the medication and skip the online visit?

A prescription written by a licensed healthcare practitioner is required for all medication currently provided through MedBox’s service. If you already have the prescription, we can fill it at MedBox and skip the visit.  If you need to have a new prescription written or require repeats to be added to your current prescription, an online assessment will be needed.

Please email our Customer Support team by clicking the link below and they will be able to assist you.

Can I pick up my medication from my own pharmacy?

Absolutely. If you would prefer to pick up your medication from a pharmacy of your choice instead of using free shipping or pick up through the MedBox network, simply choose the “I prefer to pick up from my own pharmacy” option during the online visit and enter your pharmacy's contact information.

‍Please Note: We cannot guarantee the prices of pharmacies outside our network.

Do I have to be home to receive my package?

A signature upon delivery may be required for delivery.  If someone is not home to receive the package, it may be held at your designated Canada Post office for pick up.

Do I need to complete my online visit at a scheduled time?

No. We use an asynchronous telemedicine model so you can complete your online visit in your own time. This means that your visit takes place when you want it. If needed, you can save your progress so you can come back later to finish it.

Do I need to complete the Medical Assessment if I am transferring my current prescription?

Since you have already been prescribed the medication by a doctor and are currently using it, all we need to do is set up your profile to complete your registration. This may involve a brief assessment where we ask some questions to complete your health profile, such as allergies, list of medications and medical conditions.

Prescriptions and Processes
Do I need to have a prescription to use MedBox?

No. In fact, the whole point is to get your prescription online, through MedBox. However, if you do have an active prescription with another pharmacy but want to take advantage of our online services, free delivery or MedBox auto-ship program, you can register with us, and we will move your prescriptions to MedBox.

Please email our Customer Support team by clicking the link below and they will be able to assist you with the registration process.

Do I need to talk to a healthcare practitioner?

One of the many benefits of our service is that you don’t always have to, per se, talk to the healthcare practitioner. We use a model where all the relevant information needed by them is asked during the online visit, through a medical assessment questionnaire, so you don’t have to connect with them in person. But, if the practitioner has additional questions after you submit your online visit, they will connect with you via our secure messaging portal, which means you can answer their questions at your own pace, and ask some of your own.

If you prefer to speak to a MedBox team member about your needs in person, we encourage you to book an appointment for an in-store visit.

You will only pay for the drug when it becomes available again and is included in your shipment.

Does MedBox replace my doctor?

If you have a family doctor, we are a supplement to your healthcare team. Unfortunately, many Canadians are without a family doctor, and MedBox is here to bridge the gap so we can all access the healthcare we deserve.

MedBox provides a faster, hassle-free way for you to get a prescription for certain medications, but our service does not replace your doctor or nurse practitioner. In fact, we will work closely with your family doctor and specialists as a team, so everyone is on the same page. We encourage you to continue visiting your primary health practitioner in person — whether for checkups, personal health concerns, or to inform them about the medications you are currently using.

Medbox GO Program
Does Medbox follow all legal obligations?

Yes! In Canada, only a licensed healthcare practitioner can write a prescription, and only a registered pharmacist can fill that prescription. MedBox adheres strictly to all the regulations set forth by all applicable regulatory bodies, including the College of Pharmacists, College of Nurses and College of Physicians and Surgeons.

How do I renew my prescription?

After we ship your meds, you will receive an email to complete a follow-up visit. Click the link in that email, answer a few questions such as if your condition is improving or if you are experiencing side effects. If desired, you can request a renewal at this time or even change your medication. Again, we may request a chat if needed. We take care of adding repeats and refilling your prescription behind-the-scenes.

How does it work?

It’s simple! You create a MedBox account, complete your medical profile information, and answer a medical assessment specific to the type of prescription medication you are looking for. You will have the chance to choose your treatment preferences during each visit. You will also need to provide your health insurance information to claim for the assessment. If you are not covered by OHIP, we can provide you with an official receipt indicating how much you paid so you can submit your insurance.

After you submit that information, a healthcare practitioner (nurse, doctor or pharmacist) will review it and contact you to discuss your best options based on your assessment and preferences. The quantity of medication you receive, and any repeats you require, will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.

If needed, we will provide a written referral to see another health care professional, such as family doctor, nurse, emergency doctor or other specialist. We will send the prescription to our accredited pharmacy and the referral, if needed, to the health provider of your choice. The pharmacy will then ship the medication to you, for free! You will only be charged for any drug costs or insurance copays if you have insurance.

Will you supply generic pharmaceuticals instead of brand name?

Although MedBox offers both brand name and generic versions of all the medications, we will recommend when a generic medication is more appropriate. Generic medications are more affordable, in some cases up to 80% off.  For this reason they are more likely to be fully covered by your insurance plan.

If your doctor offered you a smart card to help cover some of the variance in cost between the generic and brand, please present this to us so we can help reduce your copay.

The generic medications we provide have the same active ingredients as their brand name counterparts. We will make you a recommendation but the choice is always yours!
